Confronting the Silent Crisis: The High Toll of Unsafe Abortions in Kachulu

The Stark Reality on the Ground

In the Kachulu area of T/A Kuluunda, Salima, the statistics surrounding maternal health require immediate, decisive intervention. Recent indicators reveal a continuous rise in unsafe abortions among local women and girls. Shockingly, at least 3 in every 10 girls undergo unsafe abortions weekly, and two girls lose their lives to unsafe abortion complications every two months within the community.

Launching Frontline Medical Interventions

In response to this emergency, BCLD has gathered local health personnel and organizational staff this week for a week-long orientation training focused strictly on Comprehensive Abortion Care (CAC) and Post-Abortion Care (PAC) guidelines.

The primary objectives of this urgent training session include increasing the clinical understanding, empathy, and technical skills of healthcare personnel as they deliver these vital services, and enhancing grassroots advocacy work to ensure that unsafe abortion survivors can access stigma-free, immediate post-abortal treatments.

We stand firm with our global partners, including AmplifyChange, Girls Not Brides, Purposeful, and WomenStrong International, to protect the right of every girl to live in health and liberty.
